The Mamori Mouthguard: The Solution to Concussions in Sports

Have you ever gotten an injury? Was it a concussion? Was it a serious injury? I’ve got the solution...the Mamori mouthguard! The Mamori mouthguard is a mouthguard with built-in sensors that can detect hidden concussions that a person wouldn’t be able to see normally. Mark Dillon, a young Irish inventor made this invention. Did you know that "Mamori" is japanese for "protect"? The ongoing controversy about concussions in the NFL provides a powerful backdrop for Mark Dillon's invention. Ice hockey, in addition to football, inspired him to address the problem. For example, one ice hockey player received a severe concussion, taking him out of the game, and it wasn't until after a week and multiple tests and doctors that it was determined that he had, in fact, been concussed for several days before the incident. Stacking concussions can have dire, even fatal consequences. Luckily, there is a solution! According to the Dillon, the creator of the mouthguard. “What if, Dillon wondered, the original concussion and others like it could be detected and treated instantly? A few sensors on the player would be able to determine when a shock received was serious enough to cause head injury.” This is where the mouthguard comes into play! The Mamori mouthguard is being developed in the USA as well!

Mamori
Now, you might be asking yourself, "A mouthguard that detects concussions? How is that possible?". First of all, I'm glad you asked! Second of all, without the mouthguard, detecting a concussion is difficult. Allowing athletes to play with one can cause a lifetime of brain damage. The mouthguard has built-in sensors that can send alerts to players and coaches when a collision is intense enough to cause a concussion. Cool, right? What motivated Mark Dillon to develop this invention is how there is an ongoing controversy about concussions in the NFL and in hockey. According to the text, “The ongoing controversy about concussions in the NFL provides a powerful backdrop for Mark Dillon's invention. Ice hockey, in addition to Gaelic football, inspired him to address the problem. ‘At the moment in Ireland, head injuries have gotten a lot of coverage in our national sport, Gaelic football,’ wrote Dillon in an email to NBC News. ‘Helmets provide a great deal of protection but unfortunately concussion is unavoidable.’". He's saying that helmets have a lot of protection to begin with, but it is just not enough to keep you safe while playing a sport like football or hockey. This is important to the global community because if people keep stacking concussions playing the sports that they love without knowing it. This can have dire consequences. As stated in the text, “Stacking concussions can have dire, even fatal consequences" This will have a major positive impact because players will now be safe from stacking up concussions and they will not have to worry about that anymore so they can play their game! According to NBC News, “The inertial sensors constantly monitor for movement and relay that information in real time to a laptop on the sidelines. If a player takes a hit, the force involved is immediately known, and if the impact falls above the threshold where a concussion is likely, medical care can be given instantly.” This mouthguard will change the world and sports as we know it, so stacking concussions can be a thing from the past!

Electric Cars - Tesla

                          Electric Cars - Tesla

Ever wonder what would happen if the world ran out of oil?  You would not have gasoline which is where electric cars would come in.  Electric cars are an innovation that have already been invented.  In 2008 the first Tesla was made, the Roadster.  It was designed from Nikola Tesla's 1882 design.  Tesla was then founded by multiple engineers that wanted to prove that electric vehicles are better, quicker, and more fun to drive.  Tesla makes other products as well, products that are infinitely scalable clean energy generation and storage products.

The Tesla is being produced and developed in The Tesla Factory in Fremont, California. But R&D's lab is in Palo Alto, California. R&D means Research and Development and they are apart of Tesla Motors. Most of the vehicle components are in Fremont, California. The first Tesla was made in 2008 and the Tesla is brand has been selling for a while and has been produced and bought in the U.S. and China. According to Kevin Bullis, a senior editor for MIT Technology Review said, Within a few years, Tesla hopes to produce much more affordable vehicles—including one that costs $30,000 to $35,000—with a range similar to that of the Model S. Tesla also wants to make electric cars more practical by building a nationwide network of charging stations that can deliver 200 miles of charge in about half an hour—compared to several hours to charge an electric car at an ordinary station today.” This statement shows that the Tesla is going to make more vehicles that are more affordable and a better versions of the past Teslas. The Tesla company just introduced the Dual Charger design to China.  They will be producing a China-only version of the Tesla Model S and Model X with a dual charger port.  It supports their GB/T DC fast charging standard.  China is spreading over 10 thousand new charging stations across the country which will give customers a larger charging network. 40 percent coal, 25 percent natural gas, 20 percent nuclear power, and about 10 percent renewable sources, led by hydroelectricity. So it’s fair to say that your average Tesla is powered in large part by burning fossil fuels. But if you’re charging your Tesla in California, where natural gas supplies more than half the electricity or, better yet, Idaho or Washington, where hydroelectricity reigns, your per-mile emissions are a fraction of that amount. Your Model S is a clean machine after all.

Compared to gasoline cars there are many more advantages to having an electric car. By having a Tesla it save time, money, and trips to the gas station. It runs by electricity and is able to charge by the outlet in your house. In the car there is a single gear for all speeds, which makes people who are just learning to drive easier and makes it easier and better for other people. A regular vehicle would have gas, but not a Tesla. Since it runs on electricity it can not emit pollution in the air. It actually produces 40 percent less carbon dioxide and ozone than conventional cars. I assume that the environment will be better.  If people have electric cars than the earth will be cleaner, even the air.  Since electric cars don’t use gasoline the car doesn’t pollute the air with toxins.    They will impact the world in a positive way because it will make it easier for people to drive.  Some people don’t like to drive at night or are not good drivers at all and some of the Teslas are able to drive themselves which could affect how many people get in car accidents a year. Battery-powered cars are more efficient at converting their stored energy into forward progress. A Model S can travel upwards of 265 miles on a single charge of its 85 kilowatt-hour battery, which equates to less than 3 gallons of gas. With no engine, no gas tank, and no exhaust, they’re considered to be zero-emissions vehicles. Despite the motivated deniers, there is evidence that infestation of the planet by humans is screwing up the environment, including ever more punishing storms and winters. Being able to transport yourself without polluting the air is compelling. And you'll know that you're not contributing to umpteen tanker trucks delivering gasoline, oil rig explosions killing workers and polluting the ocean, tanker ships spilling oil, or the upcoming Toyota idiocy of hydrogen tanks everywhere. Always remember that you can generate electricity at home, but you can't produce gasoline at home. If you haven't been concerned about the increase in CO2. A late August 2015 report on personal vehicle commuting cited the enormous waste of gasoline of conventional automobile engines idling in growing traffic jams. There are still far too many tailpipes out there as the population in general gorges on gasoline. Electric cars will soon get more popular and people will buy them once they become more affordable. With electric cars who knows how much the environment will be better.

Merging your brain with a computer

Image result for neuralink

Imagine being able to connect your brain to your computer, and download anything you want.  Well, with Neuralink, that might soon be possible.  The company Neuralink is a brand new company, founded in 2016 by billionaire Elon Musk.  The company is currently working on the Neural Lace, which according to Christina Mercer, is a mesh-like substance that will be inserted into your skull.  Once it is in your skull, the mesh will wrap itself around your brain.  After that, all you do is go on your computer, and download whatever knowledge you would like to know, (Mercer).  The invention is in the beginning stages, and as far as we know, a long way away from completion.  But, the invention has the potential to change our way of life.  It would be a huge step in human development, as we will have the power to gain almost any sort of knowledge within seconds.  With the recent development of highly intellectual robots, with knowledge vastly superior to ours, the Neural Lace will allow us to keep pace with the artificial intelligence(AI), by using artificial intelligence.  Also, while this is even further away, this invention has the potential to treat, and prevent neurodegenerative diseases, like Parkinson's disease, and Alzheimer's disease.

Elon was motivated to create this invention because of the advancement of robots and artificial intelligence. Musk is concerned with how advanced, and smart artificial intelligence is becoming.  Musk himself said " we will need a “digital layer” to prevent humans from becoming future house cats compared to AI," (Chandler).  While the house cat reference was a partial joke, the point being made is no joke.  We will continue to advance AI, without giving ourselves those same advancements.  This could affect people on a global scale.  Musk is worried that AI could surpass the point of human control, (No, not like The Matrix), and our knowledge would not be able to compete, which theoretically, could result in the end of humanity.  However, the Neural Lace would greatly improve the power of the human brain, making people as smart as, if not smarter than robots, which would prove beneficial to the entire world.  But, this invention is a some ways away, as well as the advancement of AI, so we have some time to process this idea.

This invention is full of positive benefits on society.  Like previously stated, people with the Neural Lace will have their brainpower significantly improved.  That means that people will have improved memory, processing power, and a greater ability to learn.  You would have the potential to learn a new skill at the press of a button on your computer, and it would download through the Neural Lace and into your brain in seconds.  Another huge benefit, also mentioned before, is the ability to fight neurodegenerative diseases, like Parkinson's disease, and Alzheimer's disease.  While this was not Elon's intent when he invested in the idea, it was another positive affect that would come with the Neural lace.  One of Elon's partners, Bryan Johnson, who has conducted extensive research on this topic, said “We know if we put a chip in the brain and release electrical signals, that we can ameliorate symptoms of Parkinson's,” (Statt).  They think that if they release electrical signals through the Neural Lace, then it will also eradicate symptoms of Parkinson's disease, in the same way.  This carries another global impact because in the future, we could potentially rid the world of Parkinson's disease, improving the lives of millions of people, and their families.

With the positive impacts, comes the negative impacts.  Eliza Strickland talks about how the Neural Lace mesh being in your brain could clog red blood cells, which could possibly block off proper oxygen flow, and lead to diseases, and even brain damage, (Strickland).  However, this theory has yet to be proven, but it is a serious issue that needs to be addressed, so the Neural Lace can actually be safe to use.  The other major issue with the Neural Lace, according to Candice Chandler, is the many ethical implications, and complications that it brings, (Chandler).  First off, there is the potential for someone to hack the Neural Lace, since it is controlled by a computer.  From there, someone could literally download a virus into your brain, and theoretically would give the hacker full control to your brain.  It would be near impossible to fight the virus, and could possibly ruin your entire life.  Furthermore, the Neural Link would gather all of it's information from the internet.  That brings many privacy issues into play, as you would have almost no privacy, since your thoughts will forever be connected to the internet.  Also, this would give the government more control over your life, enhancing their ability to monitor you, and now your thoughts.  That is another huge privacy issue, that is borderline unethical.  Finally, since information is being retrieved from the internet, there is the possibility that the Neural Lace could transfer misinformation, or "fake news" into your brain, not knowing that it is wrong.  You would then be living your life in a constant lie, without even knowing it.  While these are only theoretical, since the Neural Lace is still in development, these are huge negatives with huge impacts on it's users.  Musk's goal is to improve humanity, but these side effects could have the potential to strip us of our humanity.  It will soon be up to you wether or not you are willing to take these risks to get the tremendous intellectual benefits the Neural Lace has to offer.

Gutenberg's Printing press
The Neural Lace could have the same effect that the printing press had during the renaissance time.  The Neural Lace is a tool that would be used to improve your brain, to be able to gain knowledge and advance humanity.  The printing press had a similar effect.  Johan Gutenberg's printing press created an efficient way for books to be produced.  There was no internet during the renaissance, so people used books to spread information for others to learn.  The printing press gave easy access to those books for everyone, even the poor, to gain knowledge and move forward as a society. This invention helped the humanist movement by sharing that knowledge.  Well, the Neural Lace will be an invention that shares knowledge from the internet to people with the Neural Lace, which allows them to gain loads of knowledge, and be modern day humanists.  Both inventions helped, or will help the progression of knowledge for humanity.

What’s cooler than water creating electricity? Trick question. The answer is nothing. Water turbines are a great way to produce hydroelectric power. Water turbines were invented by Benoit Fourneyron, but the Chinese were the first to utilize water as something to push and pull objects. This invention is being used now, and could possibly start having more of a popular source of energy due to the trend of clean energy usage in the United States. Water turbines are a great way to produce hydroelectricity in an eco-friendly and renewable way.
This invention is important to the global community because it provides a great way for people to get electricity by using an eco-safe and renewable source. According to the U.S. government, “The energy generated through hydropower relies on the water cycle, which is driven by the sun, making it a renewable power source, making it a more reliable and affordable source than fossil fuels that are rapidly being depleted”(). Renewable sources will not run out, so this means that hydroelectric power will be available every day forever. Also, eco-friendly sources of energy help stop pollution of the Earth.
The world will be able to have electricity throughout the human existence and and they will be able to focus on  issues plaguing the world other than pollution if hydroelectricity is utilized. Hydroelectric energy is eco-friendly, so does not pollute the Earth’s atmosphere. If hydroelectric energy is the prime source of energy in the world, then there will be very little pollution and this will cause people to work and improve on other issues including worldwide hunger and war.
This invention that was created by Benoit Fourneyron was created In France. It was a time of renewal in France, so he wanted to make an invention that would produce electricity easily. There were many rivers in his area of France, so this may have lead to the invention of the water turbine. France had not a lot of advancements in technology going on at the time, so France started to work to find new ideas, leading to the water turbine.

Drones in Space! A little flying buddy created by NASA to help discover Mars!

Autonomous quad-copters (drones) are manly used today for getting really cool Arial views of  anything you want and also to fly around for fun. But a team of engineers at NASA want to put one in space! And more specifically, on Mars. These drones are being developed by The Swamp Works Laboratory at the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida.

These drones are fast and flexible. they are able to get in and out of small and tight spaces. The drones are being developed in Florida because of its easy access ability to major launch sites and space training facility's so they could be able to test the device in a space life atmosphere.

How are these drones able to fly in space? Instead of using rotors, they use jets powered by oxygen gas or water vapor to move around.  Which ever is available the planet or asteroid the drone is exploring. With using this fuel, the drones are able to zip around and look for samples in small spaces that traditional landers. These drones will be able to carry enough fuel to be able to travel to where they need to go and to get back to its mother ship.

The drones will change the way we get samples from planets and asteroids. This will be a positive impact on the world. These drones are able to collect samples from the surface of a planet or asteroid. the drones carry one tool with them at a time to help them with gathering samples. the drones can collect a sample size up to 7 grams of materials. After many trips to the location and collecting samples, the drone will be able to create a geological image of that location, According to NASA.

Airless Bicycle Tires

Airless Bicycle Tires! What!

Have you ever been riding your bicycle and noticed the tire was flat or needed to be replaced? Not anymore, Bridgestone has come up with a highly advanced airless bicycle tire. A Bridgestone factory in Japan have come up with a whole new idea for the tire. This innovation will debut in 2019 because there are still cons that Bridgestone must workout. Overall Bridgestone has created these airless tires because they knew if they succeed then it will bring in lots of money because it will change the world of bicycles.

Image result for bridgestone's airless bicycle tires

In my opinion Bridgestone has invented this tire for various reasons. One, if it's successful then it will be a huge money maker. Also Cool things. com quoted, “It’s also meant to install onto bikes without any special equipment, so you can literally swap in a new airless tire for the one your bike is currently running on”. This will make many want to buy the tires because they aren't very complicated yet they are very effective. I also believe that this airless tire was developed in Japan because of technology reasons. Most likely Japan has the most resources to be able to develop the tires. This innovation if it works will easily help the global community. It will help mostly the bike riding community because there will be less popped/broken and in overall time a tire won't go flat and have a very low chance of breaking. Cool things.com also quoted on this matter saying, This should make riding an especially more convenient affair, since the lack of air-inflated tires means you can leave the bike pump, spare tube, and a few other dedicated tools at home.” They also quoted that, “As with the car version, the tires ditch the air tubes in favor of thermoplastic resin spokes that can continually alter shape as the bike moves. This allows it to support the weight of the rider while absorbing road shocks, all without the risk of a flat. That means, less maintenance and a much lower chance of finding yourself stranded on the side of the road.”. This sums up the best how the airless tires will be very efficient and effective for the user. I also think that these tires will have a positive effect on the community. Not only are they efficient but they are strong and look nice. On top of all of that you can put them on any bike. The only negative part of the tire is the price, Bridgestone hasn't come up with a price yet but only one can imagine what this innovation will cost. Let's just hope Bridgestone has more success with this than their airless car tire experiment.

Imagine if just a tiny collar can prevent concussions.

All athletes know that anytime they are playing a sport that there is a chance that they could get a concussion.  Sports like hockey there is a very high risk of getting a concussion because of all the contact that you are taking to you head.  In hockey, there are many different ways that people can get a concussion, whether its hitting your head of the ice, colliding with someone at high speed, or if you go into the boards hard and hit your head which is how a lot of concussions happen in hockey.  There are approximately 52,000 people a year die from TBI (traumatic brain injury).  These are not just sports related brain injuries these are all different things that produce brain injury.  Neuro shield is a small collar that is worn around your neck,  that has the ability to apply a small amount of pressure to your neck which then stabilizes your brain.  Take a look at these two diagrams of one person's brain that doesn't wear neuro shield and then another diagram of someone that wears neuro shield.  Without Head ProtectionWith Head Protection

On the left is someone that does not wear the collar and they have all that red which is brain damage.  On the right is someone that wears neuro shield and the green is showing how healthy their blood vessels are.  Bauer most likely saw that all these players were getting lots of concussions so they developed this innovation to prevent concussions.    The device applies light pressure to the neck which in turn mildly increases blood volume to the venous structures around the brain.” This is a short passage from neuro shields website which says that the collar gives a small amount of force to pretty much make the brain stiffer, making it harder to get a concussion. From ideation to creation, the NeuroShield has involved more than seven years of research and development” This just shows how much time and effort was put into making this collar and it really helps people not in just sports but all over the world. This also has a positive global effect because if people wear this collar whenever they do anything active they will have less of a risk for serious injury. No significant change to structure” This is what neuro shield said when they were talking about this on their website, what they mean is when you wear the collar your brain does not change structure. Repeated hits to the head, even smaller impacts, can stretch, compress, or tear these delicate nerve fibers.” This quote is saying that it doesn't matter how hard the hit is it is the amount of times they get hit is when they start having issues with their brain. An argument is that people could say that this is what helmets are for but helmets only protect your skull not the inside like this neuro shield. Overall, this is a very helpful innovation and will be very beneficial towards players.

Flying Cars will Change the World
By Morgan Bell
About Flying Cars
Flying cars will change the world. The uber company is inventing flying cars, the head of this project is Jeff Holden. This will begin in big cities including, Los Angeles, Dubai, Dallas-Fort Worth in 2020, then it will spread to other places. There is a need for this, because there is bad traffic that causes stress and anger problems. Also this will decrease the car accident rate.

Where is this being created?
Flying cars are being tested in different places and cultures one is in Texas which it a different land then Dubia same for Los Angeles. “In a speech at the Web Summit in Lisbon today, Uber’s head of product Jeff Holden announced that the company is adding a third city, Los Angeles, to its list of places where it hopes to pilot its aerial taxi service by 2020. LA joins Dallas-Fort Worth and Dubai as cities announced to be working with Uber on the program.” (Hawkins) Flying cars do not really have an effect on one region because it spread out over a few places. They did this to show that they could get different information and compare and contrast the information to see if it would work in different temperatures, environment, people, places, cultures, etc. Then compare data and see if this invention can help other places, like how it helped LA, Dubai, and Dallas-Fort Worth.

Why is there a need for this?
There is a necessity for this world because people will be able to go more places faster, more safe, and more relaxed.
  • “Over 37,000 people die in road crashes each year
  • An additional 2.35 million are injured or disabled
  • Over 1,600 children under 15 years of age die each year
  • Nearly 8,000 people are killed in crashes involving drivers ages 16-20
  • Road crashes cost the U.S. $230.6 billion per year, or an average of $820 per person
  • Road crashes are the single greatest annual cause of death of healthy U.S. citizens traveling abroad”(Asirt)This shows that cars are not safe, 37,000 people are dying each year. When we have flying cars this rate will go down a crazy amount. When you compare this death rate to an aircraft rate the difference is unbelievable. “There were 271 fatalities in 2016, which represents a significant drop since the 471 deaths in 2015” This shows mean while when millions are dying in cars only hundreds are dying from plane related accidents.”(Pemberton)
This shows only 271 people died from a fly accident in 2016. Imagine when we have flying cars how the car stats will drop from 37,000 to 271.”
How will this affect the global community?
This will help the global community go places faster. “Tens of thousands of flights per day. Electric, autonomous aircraft buzzing from rooftop to rooftop. Trips costing as little as $20. It’s fairly blue-sky thinking, even for a company that regularly imbibes its own Kool-Aid. The runway isn’t clear yet, but Uber is convinced its path forward will be free of turbulence.”(Hawkins)This shows that for only 20 dollars you can go places faster, more conveniently, more relaxed, and safer. This will make everyone want to by go on flying cars because it is cheaper than using an uber on the ground especially for long travels. This is a positive effect. This will help the community because most people get upset in traffic causing high amount of stress. Causing people not to do smart things. When people travel this way people will not have to worry about traffic, causing people not to get stressed.
How will Flying Cars change the world?
This will change the world and soon everyone will be traveling this way. “Tens of thousands of flights per day. Electric, autonomous aircraft buzzing from rooftop to rooftop. Trips costing as little as $20.” (Hawkins)This shows that for only 20 dollars you can go places faster, more conveniently, more relaxed, and safer. This is a positive effect. This invention also has a negative effect because they have not come up with a gas for the flying car. So this invention will not help the environment. So it may pollute the environment even more. A solution to this problem would be to come up with a safe fuel that is non perishable that can be able to support the weight and the distance.

(Hawkins)

How does this relate to the Renaissance?
This relates to the renaissance like how the armored car. They are both a new type of transportation that changed or will change the world. Some differences would be one was used for war and one would be used for everyday people. Also this armored car was in a shape of a triangle not like a rectangle (flying car).

Cryptocurrency, economic dream or technological fail?

Cryptocurrency?

Cryptocurrency; the new future of money, or just a technological flop? I’ll be talking about the latest craze, Bitcoin. What is Cryptocurrency? The new innovation is a digital currency, used very similarly to normal money. You can use it right now, by opening a digital wallet and buying some Bitcoins. You can use them to shop online, and some physical places accept cryptocurrency as well! Cryptocurrency could unify money, allowing for two countries to trade in a similar type of money.

Neat, but who made it?

Nobody exactly knows who invented it, as the creator has managed to remain hidden for the lifetime of the cryptocurrency. Supposedly, his name is Satoshi Nakamoto. Bitcoin was made as an alternative to digital cash, things like Paypal, or even credit cards. The creator of Bitcoin first set out to make a P2P cash system, or Peer-to-Peer. Basically, he wanted to make a system where two people could send digital money to one another. Eventually after that had failed, he began to work on what eventually became Bitcoin, the secure digital currency of the future.

What could it do for us?

Cryptocurrency could change money for the entire world in a crazy way. By unifying all types of money, it allows people to buy and sell without having to worry about international currencies and conversion rates, all that money stuff. In doing so, it’d be easier to purchase things that don’t come from your native area. Not to mention, it’s a lot harder to steal or counterfeit, as the money is secured by a complex algorithm.

Cryptocurrency could change the world. By globalizing currency, it could allow international goods to appear everywhere, more so than before. It could cut down on counterfeiting and theft as well, allowing a safe and secure way to spend money.

Beddi Glow Alarm Clock

When an alarm clock goes off, many people are tempted to hit the snooze button. The Beddi Glow Alarm Clock not only helps you sleep, but plays music, has phone chargers, and more. You’re not going to want to hit the snooze button anymore. The Beddi Glow is has features like a white noise, which drowns out background noise and helps you sleep. It also wakes you up without noise like a typical alarm clock, but it wakes you up with a light that progressively gets brighter, like the sun. This method of waking up helps you wake up feeling more rested, and more energized. Instead of jolting up at a noise you grew to hate, imagine waking up to a peaceful light. The official website says, "BEDDI Glow is the BEST wake up light alarm clock. You can wake up naturally with sunrise simulated wake up light every morning, along with your favorite music from Spotify, Apple Music, or other music players. You can also sleep well every night with soothing white noise while your phone and tablet are charging. " (https://www.wittidesign.com/collections/all/products/beddi-glow)
The Beddi Glow was invented by the company Witti, which specializes in inventions designed to help you sleep. The CEO of the company is Alfred Wong. Witti Designs headquarters are based in Torrance, California. I haven't found a definite time, but the Beddi Glow came out sometime in 2016. The Beddi Glow was needed because it helps people be less groggy, and function better in the morning and set you up for the day. Its other features like the charging ports and music help to simplify life.

I believe the motivation for this alarm clock was simply to help people sleep, because only 4% of Americans get good night's sleep. The white noise feature is vital to helping improve sleep, because it drowns out distracting noises. It is so important to get sleep because it helps you perform better. One source says,  "If you feel yourself nodding off during a meeting today, rest assured that you're not the only one. Nearly one in five Americans who participated in a recent study reported falling asleep or being drowsy in situations that required a high level of concentration, such as during meetings or conversation And excessive sleepiness is more common in the U.S. than in Europe, the study found. This raises concerns for public health and safety, according to research that will be presented today at the annual meeting of the Associated Professional Sleep Societies LLC in San Antonio, Texas."(https://www.livescience.com/6545-americans-sleepier-europeans.html) Sleep deprivation is a serious thing, and the Beddi Glow not only helps you fall asleep, but helps you wake up. Waking up 'on the right side of bed' determines your mood for the rest of the day.One study says, "
We found that CSRs varied from day to day in their start-of-day mood, but that those who started out each day happy or calm usually stayed that way throughout the day, and interacting with customers tended to further enhance their mood. By contrast, for the most part, people who started the day in a terrible mood didn’t really climb out of it, and felt even worse by the end of the day — even after interacting with positive customers." (https://hbr.org/2016/07/how-your-morning-mood-affects-your-whole-workday)  Therefore, the motivation for this innovation was to improve both sides of sleep- going to bed and waking up.

I think that the Beddi Glow alarm clock, AND all the other alarm clocks out there will together be very important to, and change the global community. Sleep is like a snowball effect. It may seem weird to say that sleep changes the world, but it does in a way. Sleep affects how we start our day, and how much we get done. If the whole world was able to change their sleeping habits, we would be a much more productive species and advance quicker. Not to mention we would be in better moods. A study has shown that, "Sleep-deprived workers may not know they are impaired. “The periods of apparently normal functioning could give a false sense of competency and security when, in fact, the brain’s inconsistency could have dire consequences,”  This is only one of the effects of bad sleep. There are also health issues that can come from sleep deprivation. 95% of the world has health issues, and although only a part of it is sleep related, that number would definitely go down if we all were to get good sleep. "In the long term, poor sleep hygiene has been shown to negatively impact "the heart, lungs and kidneys; appetite, metabolism and weight control; immune function and disease resistance; sensitivity to pain; reaction time; mood; and brain function." It is a risk factor for depression and substance abuse, and has been linked to an increased risk of obesity, diabetes, heart disease and certain forms of cancer." (https://io9.gizmodo.com/can-you-die-from-sleep-deprivation-1684235719) Typically when you're sick, your parents would tell you to go to sleep, or take a nap. This is important, because sleep helps you heal.

Lastly, the Beddi Glow will have a positive impact on the world. Better sleep will give an overall boost to everything we do. "According to a new study looking at sleep problems in Luxembourg as compared to the rest of the world, insomnia, nightmares and restlessness are a global problem. And though this latest study was aimed at showing how well (or not) the people of Luxembourg sleep, its findings are telling: A whopping 75 percent of Luxembourgers claim to suffer from insomnia due to work anxiety. But the worldwide average? It’s 85 percent. That’s breathtaking!"(https://blogs.webmd.com/sleep-disorders/2010/10/sleep-deprivation-around-the-world.html) The Beddi  Glow will improve this, and more. You may say that white noises are nothing new, but Beddi Glow is a smart tool that combines the fairly new light alarm technology and a white noise. "What have been studied, he says, are dawn-simulating alarm clocks that gently brighten the bedroom as wake time approaches. In a small 2003 study, a team of UK researchers noted that the use of these lamps increased cortisol levels in the morning. This reaction in the body is what’s called the awakening cortisol response, and it “prepares our brain and body for the stressors of the day,” says Decker. Although the lamps deal in light rather than sound, this suggests that “sensory input does create a physiologic response,” he says." This proves that these types of alarms have a positive effect on sleep and waking up. Like mentioned before, if everyone were to use it, it would snowball effect into change the lives of millions.

The original clock was invented during the Renaissance. It has definitely changed throughout time, but its effects on the world is still the same. The Beddi Glow clock not only helps you sleep, but it improves efficiency throughout the day. It helps wake you up and be more productive. Though this did not exactly happen in the Renaissance, the invention of the mechanical clock improves time management. It helped people spend their time more wisely and be more efficient. See the similarities? Though there is no evidence on it, it can be assumed that the invention of the mechanical clock also helped with sleep because people could tell the time more accurately and figure out a good time to go to bed, sleep and wake up.
