Hyperloop

What if you could travel all the way to DC for the day and still be home in time for dinner? With the new innovation of the Hyperloop, you'll be able to travel from New York City to Washington DC in just 30 minutes. The original idea for the Hyperloop was Elon Musk's, but it is being developed by Rob Lloyd, CEO of Hyperloop Technologies. It is unsure when the Hyperloop will be ready for use, but it is currently being developed in Los Angeles, California. If the Hyperloop is successful, transportation between cities in the US will be faster and easier.

Elon Musk was motivated to create the Hyperloop because of his research on California's high-speed rail project. According to Natalie Burkhard, “Reportedly, Musk became interested in high-speed, efficient travel after researching California's high-speed rail project and marveling at how slow and expensive it would be." Musk wants to create a faster and more efficient version of the high-speed railway. The capsules will be able to rush through a tube on a cushion of air. The capsules will pull themselves along with fans and electromagnets in the tubes walls. Musk couldn't continue with developing the Hyperloop because it was too much to take on while revolutionizing the space, automotive, and energy industries. He released a 58-page outline of the Hyperloop and left it to someone else to finish.

The Hyperloop is important to the global community because it will make transportation between cities faster and easier. According to Christine Hauser, the Hyperloop is “a high-speed system that would take people to San Francisco from Los Angeles in 30 minutes.” Normally, it would take almost 6 hours to drive from San Francisco to Los Angeles, so the Hyperloop would make traveling 12 times faster. Ryan Bradley says that the Hyperloop will theoretically travel 700 miles per hour. He also says that it will be faster and more efficient than planes or trains. The Hyperloop will make it so that people can travel across the country for just a day and still make it home in time for dinner.

I think that the Hyperloop could change the world if Hyperloop Technologies finds a successful way to build it. Josh Giegel, vice president of design and analysis at Hyperloop Tech, says that none of the elements of the Hyperloop are fundamentally unproven. So the Hyperloop could be built, it just hasn't been successfully built yet. CEO Rob Lloyd says, "The Hyperloop does not exist until it exists, and politicians won’t believe in it either until it exists." If the Hyperloop is built it could change the world because it will make traveling faster and easier than ever before.

  1. Due to the nature of your invention do you believe that it would be possible to implement the invention over the sea? Also, if successful the invention would cause a major disrupt to the plane industry (obviously), as well as the natural gas and oil industries. How would you stop these industries from lobbying against the creation of the hyper loop, or do you think that the industries could effectively coexist.

    1. There is talk about the Hyperloop going under the sea, but all the ones being tested go above land. I agree the Hyperloop would cause a major disrupt to the plane industry, but I think they could efficiently coexist because the Hyperloop won't stop at ever minor city. Like it most likely won't stop in Manchester, so you would still have to take a plane Manchester Airport. Also, I assume Hyperloop tickets would cost more than plane tickets so if you're looking for a cheaper way to travel you could take a plane instead. I think te plane industry might take a small hit, but they'll still be able to survive.

  2. Would a ticket for this be more expensive than tickets for planes or regular trains?

    1. The ticket price is unknown and probably won't be announced until the Hyperloop is actually functional, but I assume it would cost more because it's much faster than trains or planes.

  3. What will installing all of the Hyperloop tracks take in terms of money and time? Will they be above ground or below? How is the safety of the Hyperloop compared to transportation methods that are used today?

    1. The Hyperloop is still in testing so I'm not sure how long it will take to build the complete Hyperloop track, But Elon Musk says that a 400 mile Hyperloop track will cost roughly 6 billion dollars and take 7-10 years to build. The safety of the Hyperloop would be fairly similar to transportation methods that are used today. People would have seat belts just like they would in cars or planes.

  4. Would the Hyperloop affect those riding? Would passenger be able to feel the speed, and would the passernger be able to stand up during their trip or would that be too dangerous and unsafe?

    1. Passengers would be able to feel the speed and they won't be able to stand during the trip because they would have seat belts. I think it would be unsafe for people to stand because of how fast the Hyperloop goes.

  5. You mentioned that if Hyperloop Techlogies found a way to build one that it could change the world. In what ways is this invention beneficial to the people? Will riding the hyperloop cost more than if you were to take an airplane or train?

    1. It's beneficial to the people because it can help people travel faster around the world. Say you're a business man and you need to go to Washington DC for a meeting for just the day. While normally would would have to drive down there for 7 hours, You could take the Hyperloop for a short 30 minutes. As I said before, the ticket price for the Hyperloop hasn't been released to the public yet, but I assume it will cost more than a ticket for a plane or train because of how much faster it goes.
