Airless Bicycle Tires

Airless Bicycle Tires! What!

Have you ever been riding your bicycle and noticed the tire was flat or needed to be replaced? Not anymore, Bridgestone has come up with a highly advanced airless bicycle tire. A Bridgestone factory in Japan have come up with a whole new idea for the tire. This innovation will debut in 2019 because there are still cons that Bridgestone must workout. Overall Bridgestone has created these airless tires because they knew if they succeed then it will bring in lots of money because it will change the world of bicycles.

In my opinion Bridgestone has invented this tire for various reasons. One, if it's successful then it will be a huge money maker. Also Cool things. com quoted, “It’s also meant to install onto bikes without any special equipment, so you can literally swap in a new airless tire for the one your bike is currently running on”. This will make many want to buy the tires because they aren't very complicated yet they are very effective. I also believe that this airless tire was developed in Japan because of technology reasons. Most likely Japan has the most resources to be able to develop the tires. This innovation if it works will easily help the global community. It will help mostly the bike riding community because there will be less popped/broken and in overall time a tire won't go flat and have a very low chance of breaking. Cool things.com also quoted on this matter saying, This should make riding an especially more convenient affair, since the lack of air-inflated tires means you can leave the bike pump, spare tube, and a few other dedicated tools at home.” They also quoted that, “As with the car version, the tires ditch the air tubes in favor of thermoplastic resin spokes that can continually alter shape as the bike moves. This allows it to support the weight of the rider while absorbing road shocks, all without the risk of a flat. That means, less maintenance and a much lower chance of finding yourself stranded on the side of the road.”. This sums up the best how the airless tires will be very efficient and effective for the user. I also think that these tires will have a positive effect on the community. Not only are they efficient but they are strong and look nice. On top of all of that you can put them on any bike. The only negative part of the tire is the price, Bridgestone hasn't come up with a price yet but only one can imagine what this innovation will cost. Let's just hope Bridgestone has more success with this than their airless car tire experiment.

  1. How does the tire function without air in it? Is it just a solid piece of rubber or is there something else inside of the tire instead of air to inflate the tires. If it is just a solid then it would be very heavy so what do they use instead of air for the tires to move the bike?

    1. You say that flats and leaking tubes are not going to be an issue, but are these wheels durable and able to withstand a lot of force pushing down on them? If a rock hits the wheel, is it still usable?
